This policy explains what information The Nile collects, why we collect it, and what we do with it. It applies to the Nile mobile app and to thenileapp.com.
Who we are
The Nile is operated by Brian Zarabian. If you have questions about this policy or about your data, contact us at brianzara@gmail.com.
What we collect
Information you give us
Email address. We collect your email when you create an account or join our waitlist. We use it to sign you in, to contact you about your account, and to send occasional product updates.
Profile information. If you set a display name, username, or profile picture, we store it. This information is visible to other users.
Content you create. Comments, likes, saves, and follows are stored and associated with your account. Comments are visible to other users.
Information collected automatically
Listening activity. We record which episodes you play, how far through them you get, and when. We use this to resume playback where you left off, to show your listening history, and to decide what to recommend in your feed.
Audiobook progress. We store your position in audiobooks so you can pick up where you stopped.
Basic technical information. Our servers log standard request information such as IP address and device type, as part of normal operation and to protect against abuse.
What we don't do
- ›We do not sell your personal information.
- ›We do not share your information with advertisers.
- ›We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- ›We do not use your data for advertising or ad measurement.
- ›We do not build advertising profiles about you.
Why we collect it

We do not use your information for any purpose beyond these without asking you first.
Who we share it with
We use third-party services to run The Nile. They process data only as needed to provide their service to us:
- ›Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage
- ›Apple — app distribution and, if you enable them, push notifications
- ›Podcast Index and podcast publishers' RSS feeds — used to fetch podcast content. These are read-only; we do not send them your personal information.
- ›YouTube (Google) — used to fetch public video metadata. We do not send them your personal information.
We may disclose information if legally required to do so, or where necessary to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Podcast content
The Nile plays podcasts, radio, audiobooks, and video from publicly available feeds and public APIs. We do not host or own that content. Rights remain with the original publishers. If you are a publisher and want your content removed, email brianzara@gmail.com and we will remove it promptly.
Your choices and rights
Delete your account. You can delete your account from within the app, under Settings. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, listening history, saves, likes, and follows. This cannot be undone.
Access your data. Email brianzara@gmail.com and we will provide a copy of the information we hold about you.
Correct your data. You can edit your profile in the app, or email us.
Notifications. If you enable push notifications, you can turn them off at any time in your device settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA, including the right to object to processing or to request deletion. Email us and we will honour those requests.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data. Anonymous, aggregated statistics that cannot identify you may be retained.
Technical server logs are retained for a limited period as part of normal operation.
Security
Your data is stored with Supabase, which encrypts data in transit and at rest. Access to production data is limited to the operator of the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information and will notify affected users if a breach puts their data at risk.
Children
The Nile is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Some content on The Nile is intended for mature audiences. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email brianzara@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email.
